Start Your Own RSO
Establishing a student organization at Washington State University is a simple process and can happen at any time throughout the school year. We only ask for a few things:
1. Do Your Research
We want to make sure there aren’t any duplicate clubs, so we ask that you check out our list of clubs in CougSync. Log in with your network ID, select the Organizations tab, and start browsing. If you don’t see anything similar to what your club wants to do, move on to step 2.
2. Find Your People
At least four club members are required to establish an organization. Members and officers must be currently enrolled WSU students and must join the organization through CougSync once it is established.
3. Identify a Club Advisor
Advisors can be faculty, staff, or graduate students with a teaching, research, or graduate assistantship at WSU. Advisors must fill out the Advisor Agreement Form through CougSync once per academic year, per club they advise.
If you need assistance finding a club advisor, email RSO Community Advisor Evelyn Martinez to explore a list of potential advisors.
4. Attend Officer Training
Two RSO Officers must complete an in-person officer training every year.View Training Dates
5. Create the Constitution
This document establishes your organization’s name, mission and philosophy, and sets policies and procedures related to your members, officers, meetings, elections, and other functions that may be unique to your organization. You can find a constitution template on CougSync. You will upload this document to CougSync when you register your new organization.
6. Make it Official
Register your new organization online through CougSync. Select the Organizations tab and click the green Register New Organization button. Fill out the registration form to provide basic, descriptive information about the organization. Remember to expand on the keywords you use in this form, as it will help new students find your club on CougSync.
What is CougSync?
CougSync is the online community that connects all RSOs. RSOs are required to update and renew their information in CougSync each year, and new RSOs must register through this database.
All WSU students can use CougSync by logging in using their network ID. Once logged in, students can browse all RSOs, take care of important RSO requirements, and learn more about upcoming RSO programs and events across campus.
